Dr Peter Njuru has a PhD in Biology (Aquatic Sciences) from the University of Waterloo, Canada (2010); a Master of Science in Environmental Science and Technology from UNESCO-IHE, Netherlands (2001) and a BSc (Honns) from Moi University, Eldoret (1990). He joined the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) as a Lecturer in 2010 and was appointed Chairman, Department of Environmental Science and Technology, School of Environment and Natural Resources Management, in 2012. He served as the School Examination and Timetabling Coordinator between 2012 and 2013 and has been a member of the Board of Postgraduate since 2011 and chairman of Environmental Sustainability Committee since 2015. As a member of faculty in the School of Environment and Natural Resources Management, Dr. Njuru is involved in teaching, supervising and mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students. Prior to joining SEKU, he worked as a Research Assistant, Department of Biology Environmental Toxicology Lab, University of Waterloo (2009), scientist in the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (1999-2005) and as water quality and pollution control specialist in the then Ministry of Water Development (1992–1998). Dr Njuru has participated in various research projects, both locally and internationally, and published numerous papers in refereed journals and unpublished reports and has attended and presented papers in local and international conferences and seminars. Dr Njuru is a member of several professional bodies including International Association of Great Lakes Research (IAGRL), East Africa Water Association (EAWA) and International Mire Conservation Group (IMCG), besides being a NEMA lead expert (No. 7076).
