Prof Geoffrey M. Muluvi is the current Vice Chancellor, South Eastern Kenya University and the Chairman of Vice Chancellors committee of Public Universities, Kenya. Prof Muluvi holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Plant Molecular Genetics), from the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), degree from Maastricht University/Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI), Arusha, Tanzania among other qualifications.

Dr. Janie Dubois is the Director of the International Food Safety Training Laboratory, a virtual training network for food safety laboratory analysts, and Owner of Contract Analytical Services LLC. Dr. Dubois specializes in the area of international education in capacity for food safety and risk-based domestic and international regulations. She then held a position of Research Associate posted at the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition before moving to the private sector in 2004 and held various positions in the analytical imaging business at Spectral Dimensions and Malvern Instruments. She joined the University of Maryland in 2011, where she led the laboratory capacity building program for food safety until 2018.

 


PROF. ADIPALA EKWAMU

PROF. ADIPALA EKWAMU

Professor Adipala is Executive Secretary, Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. Among his many career achievements, Prof Adipala has overseen the growth of RUFORUM, an Africa owned and driven network grow from 10 member universities in five African countries in 2004, to 114 universities in 38 countries across Africa at present. He has also mobilized over US$ 600 million dollars to support research and innovation, scholarships and higher education reform in Africa, enabled training of 2, 525 graduates in Africa (master’s and PhD), and published over 200 research and policy publications.

Dr. John is experienced Food safety and agribusiness consultant with a demonstrated history of consultancy in Food safety management systems implementation in Hospitality, Food service, Food processing and beverage processing sectors in Africa, as well as Agrochemical and public health Pesticides registration in East Africa.

 

 


 DR. DELIA GRACE

DR. DELIA GRACE

Dr. Delia Grace is an epidemiologist and veterinarian with more than 20 years’ experience in developing countries. She graduated from several leading universities and currently is a professor at the university of Greenwich and supports research on human and animal health at the International Livestock Research Institute based in Nairobi, Kenya. Her research interests include food safety, emerging diseases, gender studies, and animal welfare. Her career has spanned the private sector, field-level community development and aid management, as well as research. She has lived and worked in Asia, west and east Africa and authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications as well as training courses, briefs, films, articles, chapters and blog posts.

Professor Mutinga is Vice Chancellor of Eden University Lusaka in Zambia He has been listed as a noteworthy university president, parasitologist, and entomologist by Marquis Who's Who. He adds to his credentials over one hundred peer-reviewed researched scientific articles in international journals on epidemiology, Vector-borne Diseases and vector management and control. Named Research Fellow in Malariology: Harry S Truman Research Center, Walter Reed Army Research Centre Kansas City Missouri Medical Centre, USA. He is also a Fellow African Academy of Sciences, New York Academy of Sciences, Kenya National Academy. He has served as Chairman of Water Resources Management Authority, for Kenya Government.


BRENDAH SIKOLO OBURA

Ms. Brendah is the head of the Division of Food Safety at the MOH. She is a Public Health Specialist and holds a BSC. Degree in Environmental Health Sciences and MSC. in Health Management from Kenyatta University. She has an experience of over 15years in matters food safety. She is a Lead Instructor in Food Safety and coordinates multi-sectoral collaboration with other agencies and ministries dealing with food safety, resource mobilization, provides policy direction on food safety in the country, county capacity building, and surveillance of food products. She has provided technical assistance in the development of various Food Safety Standards and Guidelines. She is the INFOSAN Focal person for the MOH and represents the country in different international fora. She has a great passion in empowering the public on Food Safety.


DR. ALICE MWEETA

DR. ALICE MWEETA

Dr. Alice Mutiti Mweetwa is the current Deputy Executive Secretary for Program Development and Implementation at the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) Secretariat in Kampala, Uganda. She is the immediate past Deputy Director for Research and Post Graduate Studies of the University of Zambia (UNZA), a position she held 2017-2019 and a past Deputy Dean for Post Graduate Programs of the School of Agricultural Sciences (2013-2017). . Dr Mweetwa is currently involved with several funded projects in collaboration with other institutions and has participated in mobilizing through competitive grants and other funding from the USAID, World Bank, European Union Commission, African Union Commission, USDA and other sources. Some of her current work involves food safety issues related to investigating aflatoxin awareness creation and mitigation strategies in Eastern and Southern African along maize and groundnut value chains


Mr. DEAN TASHOBYA

Mr. Tashobya works with Uganda National Bureau of Standards, and has 13+years of experience in food product development, food safety, standards development and analytical chemistry techniques. Dean has participated in different research collaborations on Mycotoxin Detection Options. He is a Vice Chair of the East Central and Southern African Health Community (ECSA-HC) Technical Working Group for reviewing food fortification laboratory guidelines. He is also the Uganda coordinator for the East African Community Proficiency Testing Scheme (EAC PT). Dean represents Uganda as an Expert delegate on different International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and East African Community food sector Technical committees on standards development.


DR. JAMES THEURI

Dr. Theuri is a Local Food Systems & Small Farms educator at the University of Illinois Extension Department since 2005. His expertise is in integrated pest management (IPM). James’s programs target small-scale farms, which are slowly but surely coming back as local food movements continue to grow. Towards this goal, he organizes/facilitates programs in food safety (good agricultural practices); horticulture; raising livestock (sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry); forage (pasture) management and production; basic soil science (enhancing soil health by encouraging proliferation of macro- and micro-organisms in the soil); conventional and organic specialty crop (fruit and vegetable) production.


DR. FLORENCE MAYEGA NAKAYIWA

Dr. Florence is the Deputy Executive Secretary: Planning, Resource Mobilization and Management, at the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM); a network of 129 universities in 38 Countries in Africa with the Secretariat hosted by Makerere University in Kampala- Uganda. She has been in the institutional development field as Program Coordinator of Several Development Partner Programs at Makerere University. These among others include the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University and the African Development Bank- Higher Education Science and Technology program. She is an associate Fellow of the Centre for Higher Education Trust based in South Africa which championed the Higher Education Research and Advocacy Network based on eight flagship universities in Africa

Mrs. Susan Njeri is the Managing Director and Lead Consultant at Plethora Consultants (PTY) Ltd, based in Botswana. She has over 13 years’ experience, working with the various international business management systems and standards. Susan holds a BSc. (Hons) and MSc. (Hons) in Food Science and Technology from Cardiff University, UK and has since specialized in fields such as but not limited to Quality Management, Food microbiology, Food safety, Food product design and commercialization. She is also a trained Lead Auditor (IRCA) for ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 and is an accredited Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) Trainer and assessor.
