2025 Commonwealth PHD and Masters Scholarships Tenable in the United Kingdom

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom is offering Ten (10) PhD and Nineteen (19) Masters full scholarships to Kenya citizens tenable in 2025. The awards are tenable at any approved UK University that hosts CSC awardees.
Online applications will be open on 10th September, 2024 and closed on 15th October, 2024. CSC Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Masters and PhD Candidates

1. Master’s Study

  1. Proof of Kenyan citizenship
  2. Bachelor’s degree – at least 2nd class upper division from a recognized university with strong academic background
  3. Supporting statements from two (2) referees
  4. A proposal in the area of study clearly showing the potential impact on the development of Kenya
  5. Quality Study Plan
  6. Be available to start your academic studies in the United Kingdom (UK) by the start of the UK academic year in September, 2025.

2. PhD Study

  1. Proof of Kenyan citizenship
  2. Master’s Degree from a recognized university with strong academic background
  3. Supporting statements from two (2) referees
  4. One supporting statement from a supervisor in a UK Institution
  5. A proposal in the area of study clearly showing the potential impact on the development of Kenya
  6. Quality Study Plan
  7. Should not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil, leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in Kenya, before September/October 2025.

3. Field (s) of Study:

  • Food Security and Nutrition;
  • Manufacturing;
  • Health Care and;
  • Housing;
  • Digital and creative economy; and
  • Transforming micro, small and medium enterprises.

Application procedure

All eligible candidates must read and adhere to the following guidelines strictly:

  1. Apply using the CSC’s online application system, which can be found on the CSC website: https://cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk/advicetoapplicants . Each scholarship has a ‘How to apply’ section which will have information and guidance on the application process and the link to the online application system.
    Kindly note: the CSC is unable to accept any applications that are not submitted via the online application system or after the closing date listed above.
  2. Download and print the completed online application form before submitting it electronically to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC).
  3. Download the Standard Scholarship Application Form, from the Ministry’s website: http://www.education.go.ke/.
  4. Complete the Standard Scholarship Application Form. Attach the required certified supporting documents (certified photocopies of ID, academic/professional certificates, Transcripts, Birth Certificate, Passport, other testimonials), a proposal in the area of study and a copy of the online submitted CSC application form.
  5. Submit three (3) sets of the hard copy of Standard Scholarship Application Form and CSC application form with all the certified copies of academic/professional certificates, to the Directorate of Higher Education on the following address:
            1. Director, Higher Education,
              P.O. Box 9583 – 00200, NAIROBI

              OR

            2. Deliver to Teleposta Towers, 27th floor, Room 2702 during working hours between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

  6. Printed copies of completed applications as in 5 above, should be submitted to the Ministry of Education not later than 5.00 p.m on 17th October, 2024.
