TVET participates in the ENGAGE Program.

Female students of the South Easter Kenya University Directorate of TVET were among the group selected to participate in the ENGAGE Program. This will be a game changer for these girls mainly selected from Diploma in Engineering and Diploma in ICT. They have undergone a rigorous training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to bridge the gender gap in Data Science and improve health outcomes. Enabling Girls in AI and Growing Expertise (ENGAGE)in Data Science creates a health focused machine learning training program. This is a 5-year research program funded by a grant from Takeda done in partnership with the University of Nairobi and the University of California San Francisco. The project specifically targets young women and girls and includes outreach training programs in six regional universities in Kenya. The SEKU Director TVET, Dr. Selpher Cheloti, said that the training will not only fill the skills gender gap but also enable her Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) girls to get into the career through the ENGAGE internship. We value the partnership and I know that more of our girls in engineering are enthusiastic to join the program next year and for the next five years. It is the mission of the South Eastern Kenya University to support learners through such research opportunities that can impact on their career lives. Congratulations to our girls in STEM!!
