SEKU Relaunches Phase I of the 9 KM Green Avenue Enhancement Programme

South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) led by the acting Vice-Chancellor Prof.Harisson Maithya has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable landscape restoration with the successful relaunch of Phase I of the 9 KM Green Avenue Enhancement Programme at the University's Main Campus.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Hearts of Green Organization, the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies at the University of Nairobi, and with the generous support of Pioneer General Insurance Limited under the Landscape Repair and Transformation (LANSRET) initiative.

The Green Avenue Enhancement Programme is a flagship environmental restoration initiative aimed at transforming the University's landscape while promoting biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable environmental management. The programme aligns with SEKU's commitment to supporting national and global efforts to combat climate change through innovative partnerships, research, and community engagement.

Speaking during the relaunch, University officials emphasized that the initiative goes beyond planting trees. It represents a shared vision of restoring ecosystems, enhancing green spaces, and fostering environmental stewardship among students, staff, and the wider community.

Through strategic collaborations with like-minded institutions and organizations, SEKU continues to position itself as a leader in environmental sustainability, contributing to Kenya's climate action agenda and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on climate action, life on land, and sustainable communities.

The relaunch marks another significant milestone in the University's journey towards creating a greener and more resilient campus. As Phase I progresses, every tree planted will stand as a symbol of hope, resilience, and a collective commitment to safeguarding the environment for present and future generations.

SEKU remains dedicated to nurturing partnerships that promote sustainable development and inspire meaningful environmental action, reaffirming its vision of becoming a centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community service while championing environmental conservation.
