South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) management, led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) to implement the 2013–2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The signing ceremony brought together representatives from SEKU management and KUSU, led by the National Secretary General, Dr. Charles Mukhwaya, marking a significant milestone in strengthening industrial harmony and enhancing staff welfare within the University.
The agreement underscores SEKU’s commitment to upholding negotiated terms and fostering a supportive working environment for unionisable staff. It reflects a shared dedication between management and the union to promote fairness, transparency, and mutual respect in the implementation of employment terms as outlined in the 2013–2017 CBA.
Speaking during the event, Prof. Eng. Shitanda reaffirmed the University’s resolve to engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration with staff unions to ensure institutional stability and growth. He emphasized that harmonious labour relations are critical in advancing SEKU’s mandate in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
On his part, Dr. Mukhwaya lauded SEKU management for its commitment to dialogue and partnership, noting that the signing of the MoU demonstrates goodwill and a shared vision for the welfare of university staff across the country.
The MoU signing marks a new chapter of cooperation between SEKU and KUSU, reinforcing the importance of social dialogue in building a resilient and progressive higher education sector.
