The University Management Board (UMB) led by the Vice-Chancellor prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda had the privilege of hosting Prof. John Oluoch, Director of Placement Coordination and Career Development at KUCCPS, during a courtesy visit aimed at officially launching the 2026/2027 placement cycle within the Kitui region. The visit underscores KUCCPS’ continued commitment to strengthening collaboration with higher education institutions and ensuring a smooth, transparent, and inclusive placement process for prospective students.
His engagement with the UMB and key stakeholders focused on aligning institutional efforts with KUCCPS strategies and enhancing awareness around the evolving placement framework. His visit served as a platform for dialogue, capacity building, and reaffirmation of shared goals in guiding students toward informed career pathways.
A major highlight of the visit was the emphasis on multi-agency collaboration in student outreach. Prof. Oluoch stressed the importance of coordinated campaigns involving educational institutions, government agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure that accurate information reaches all eligible candidates. These campaigns are designed to increase access, especially for students in remote areas, and to promote equity in placement opportunities.
He provided insights into the revised placement criteria for the upcoming cycle. The updates aim to enhance fairness, transparency, and merit-based selection while also considering evolving educational trends and labor market demands. Institutions were encouraged to familiarize themselves with these updates to better support applicants during the selection process.
The Director outlined key support mechanisms that will be implemented during the application period. These include the establishment of application support centres to assist students with the submission process, dissemination of clear and consistent key messages, and adoption of thematic communication strategies to guide students in making informed choices. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that applicants understand program requirements, career prospects, and institutional offerings.
The courtesy visit reinforced the critical role of institutions like UMB in supporting KUCCPS initiatives at the regional level. Through strengthened collaboration, both parties aim to improve the efficiency of the placement process and enhance student outcomes.
In his remarks, Prof. Oluoch expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and encouraged the institution to actively participate in outreach and sensitization activities.
