South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) continues to strengthen its commitment to career guidance and community engagement through active participation in the Kajiado South Education Career Mentorship Programme, held on 5th and 6th February 2026 in Kimana and Loitokitok towns, respectively.
The University delegation, led by Dr. Faraj Yatundu, Chair of Marketing, alongside Dr. Grace Mutia, Coordinator, Career Services. The team represented SEKU in a programme that brought together over 2,000 former and current Form Four candidates, their parents and guardians, as well as local leaders from Kajiado South Sub-County.
Each year, high schools across Kenya graduate thousands of Form Four students who transition to universities, technical institutes, and middle-level colleges. However, many learners face challenges in identifying career paths that align with their academic strengths, interests, and subject choices. The mentorship programme was designed to address this critical gap by providing timely, relevant, and practical career guidance.
In an era marked by rapid global transformation driven by information technology and expanding knowledge, students must develop adaptability, creativity, independent thinking, and lifelong learning skills. During the mentorship sessions, the SEKU team engaged participants on informed career decision-making, emerging academic opportunities, and the importance of aligning career choices with individual abilities and future market demands.
SEKU also showcased its wide range of academic programmes, student support services, and career development initiatives, while offering guidance on university entry requirements and progression pathways. Parents and guardians were equally engaged to help them better support learners during this crucial transition period.
The Kajiado South Education Career Mentorship Programme provided a valuable platform for SEKU to interact with prospective students and the wider community, reinforcing the University’s role in empowering young people to make responsible, informed, and future-oriented career choices.
Through such outreach initiatives, SEKU remains committed to nurturing talent, promoting access to higher education, and contributing to national development through education and mentorship.
